About us

Welcome to Adopta Benissa

We are a small, volunteer-run cat shelter based in Benissa, on the Costa Blanca in Spain.

Our mission is to get the cats off the streets and castrate/sterilize them. Our goal is to one day make Spain free of stray cats, so no cat needs to fight for it’s life anymore.

We catch the cats and get them fixed, in order to fight the overpopulation of street cats. The cats who are in the most need, come back with us to the shelter. We will nourish them back to health and help them find their forever home ❤️.

Adopt a cat

Looking for a furry friend? We have many sweet and social cats waiting for their forever home. For a small adoption fee (± €150,- per cat), every cat goes home fully healthy, vaccinated and dewormed. All cats in the shelter are neutered/sterilised, except for kittens.

Whether you live in Spain or abroad, adoption is possible and we’ll guide you through every step. Before adopting, we kindly ask you to fill in a questionnaire. This will help us understand your home, experience, and if you’re ready to adopt.

All cats are vaccinated, tested, dewormed, and castrated/sterilised,.

Transport options

Adoptions are possible in Spain, Germany, Swiss, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France, with safe transport available.

Given a second chance

A large part of our mission is rescuing the invisible ones: cats left injured, sick, or abandoned on the streets. We take them in at their most vulnerable, providing the specialized medical care and love they desperately need to recover.

Our goal is simple: to heal these brave survivors and help them find the warm, forever families they deserve.

Our bravest survivors

Meet Balou, Hook, and Seoul, just three of the cats we rescued. Luckily all three of them are adopted and living their best life.

Balou
Meet Balou, hit by a car and left with severe injuries, he proved he has the strength of a bear. Despite neurological damage, he fights every single day to recover. He is healing beautifully, showing us all that giving up is never an option.
Hook
Meet Hook, after a tragic accident, he had to have one of his back legs amputated. He adapted incredibly fast and now runs, jumps, and plays as if nothing ever happened. For Hook, a missing leg isn’t a limitation; it’s just part of his charm.
Seoul
Meet Souel, he lost his eye to a severe viral infection, but his spirit remains unbroken. He is living proof that a one-eyed cat can play, purr, and love just as fiercely as any other. His resilience is truly inspiring.

Become a volunteer

Our team is small, and we always need extra hands and hearts. From cleaning and feeding to socializing with the cats, it all matters. Just spending time with our cats helps them become more social and ready for adoption.
